Precision Ski Tuning by Suburban Sports

Get the most out of your skis by keeping them in prime condition. The base of your skis should be free of damage, have a nice smooth structure, and the base edge should have no more than 1 degree of bevel.  The base of the ski should be sealed with wax.  A well tuned ski should be easy to ski on, very smooth from edge to edge and grip well on firmer snow conditions. A well tuned ski shouldn't grab. The structure should be smooth and free of micro fibers.  The side edges should have 2 or 3 degrees of bevel and be smoothly polished and free from burrs.

Suburban's Wintersteiger machines are factory calibrated.  We constantly monitor them to ensure calibration accuracy is maintained. In order to get a high degree of structure, our stones are redressed as often as needed. We consider good Ski Tuning to be an art form that can only be performed by full-time seasoned industry veterans.

Special Note on New Skis--Not all new skis are ready to go out of the wrapper, many are base high, lack structure and don't have proper edge bevel.

Base Bevel

The above ski is now flat and ready for some base bevel. One can use a true bar to check for base bevel however this new tool from SunValley is very easy to use.

Suburban's Ski Restoration Procedure for Race Skis
Removal of the ski's binding and plate allows us to grind the skis with out a binding bridge as originally done in the factory. This will assure even pressure along the entire length of the ski for a perfect grind.  Select performance skis will also benefit from this process.  We offer this service for those who want the very best!

Using Tru-Bar to determine base bevel.  This ski measures 3mm at the center mark so the base bevel is 3 degrees - an extreme "base high" condition.
